Decorating Companies London Meet Growing Demand for High-Quality Painting and Interior Finishing Services

London, UK — Book a decorator in London this year and you might find yourself waiting. Diaries are fuller than they were a couple of years back, and the firms doing the painting say it's not a one-off blip. Prima Decor, based in Twickenham and running for over 12 years now, is one of the decorating companies London property owners keep turning to as renovation work climbs across the city and out into Surrey.

Why the Work Has Picked Up
Ask five decorators why and you'll get five slightly different answers, but a few things keep coming up. Old housing stock in Richmond and Twickenham just needs looking after — that's not new, but it doesn't stop. Newer flats around Canary Wharf get refreshed on a schedule that would surprise most people who don't work in the trade. And landlords, squeezed by a more competitive rental market, are repainting between tenants more often than they used to bother with.

Then there's the commercial side. Offices, shops, restaurants — a lot of them went a bit quiet on refurbishment for a while, and now they're not. Roman put it plainly: people walk into a reception area and form an opinion in about four seconds, and businesses have clearly worked that out again.

What People Actually Ask For Now
Roman leads the team at Prima Decor, and he says the calls coming in these days are different. Nobody just wants "a paint job" anymore. They've got a Pinterest board. They know the paint brand already — Farrow & Ball, usually, or Little Greene. Sometimes they've even had a colour consultant round before they've spoken to a decorator at all.

"People know more than they used to," he said. "They've seen what a decent finish looks like in someone else's well-lit living room on Instagram, and they don't want magnolia anymore. Can't blame them."

That's raised the bar on prep work — filling, sanding, priming, the unglamorous bit nobody photographs — because a rushed base coat shows through premium paint almost immediately. It's also nudged more decorators toward spray finishing, which handles fiddly detail (skirting, panelling, staircases) better than a brush ever will.

Residential Jobs, Commercial Jobs, Same Week
London makes it easy to run both sides of the business at once. A domestic job in Barnes on Monday, a commercial fit-out in Kings Cross by Wednesday — the geography just about allows it. Prima Decor has recently finished a full house renovation in Belgravia, wallpapering across a few period homes in Chelsea and Kensington, and office repaints near Kings Cross.

Insurance comes up a lot more than it used to, apparently. Prima Decor carries £2 million in public liability cover and backs its exterior work with a 12-month warranty. "People ask about the insurance before they ask about the colour now," Roman said. "That's a fairly recent thing."

Getting Harder to Compete On Price Alone
More work hasn't made life easier for decorators, oddly enough. Homeowners comparing quotes from a few decorating companies London firms put forward tend to skip past the cheapest number and ask harder questions instead — what paint's being used, how the surfaces get prepped, whether the crew quoting the job is the crew turning up to do it.

Prima Decor doesn't subcontract, for what it's worth. Same team, start to finish. Whether that matters to a given client is up to them, but it's the kind of detail that seems to come up in conversation more than it once did.

What's Next
Renovation activity doesn't look like it's slowing down, on either the residential or commercial side, and most decorating companies London-wide expect that to hold into next year — period restoration work especially, and office refits. For a firm like Prima Decor, that mostly just means doing what it already does: prepping properly, using decent materials, and finishing when they said they would.
