IHG Hotels & Resorts in the Maldives recently hosted a special Maahefun celebration at Lonuziyaaraiy Park in malé, bringing together destination management companies, business partners and their families to honour one of the Maldives’ most cherished cultural traditions ahead of Ramadan.
The event transformed the park into an elegant gathering space and united three IHG properties in the Maldives: InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, Noku Maldives, Vignette Collection, an IHG Hotel, and Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives. The celebration highlighted the shared commitment of the resorts to recognising and strengthening partnerships that support the continued growth of the Maldives tourism industry.
Maahefun is traditionally observed as the final gathering and meal before the start of Ramadan and is widely recognised across the Maldives as a meaningful occasion centred on togetherness, gratitude and community. While Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and devotion, it is also a period of generosity and connection, where meals are shared and relationships are strengthened.
“Maahefun is a deeply meaningful tradition that is uniquely Maldivian,” said Sharon Garrett, Director of Marketing & Sustainability at Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives.
“It is a celebration of unity and togetherness, bringing people together through food and shared experience. It was the perfect opportunity for IHG to thank our valued partners, acknowledge their contribution to our collective success and extend our warmest wishes for Ramadan.”
Guests enjoyed a selection of contemporary and traditional Maahefun cuisine inspired by local ingredients and flavours that have shaped Maldivian culinary heritage over generations.
More than a meal, Maahefun reflects the spirit of gratitude, unity and respect for cultural identity. It reinforces the importance of community and hospitality, values that align strongly with IHG’s purpose of True Hospitality for Good.
Ramadan is expected to take place from 18 February to 20 March 2026, subject to moon sightings. While IHG’s private island resorts in the Maldives continue to offer an unrestricted experience for international travellers during Ramadan, guests are encouraged to be mindful and respectful of local customs when visiting Malé, local islands and when transiting through Velana International Airport.
