Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives is pleased to announce that General Manager Mark Eletr has been appointed to the Executive Board of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry for the 2026–2029 term. The appointment was confirmed during MATI’s 36th Annual General Meeting held on 15 February 2026.
During the meeting, members elected a 19-member Executive Board that will lead the association over the next three years. The newly elected Board is chaired by Hussain Afeef, representing KASA Holdings Pvt Ltd.
Established in 1982, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and strengthening the Maldivian tourism sector. As the recognised representative body for the industry, MATI works closely with government stakeholders, conducts research, promotes quality standards and contributes to sustainable tourism development across the Maldives.
“It is a great honour to be appointed to the MATI Executive Board,” said Mark Eletr.
“I hope to contribute fresh perspectives from my global tourism experience, particularly my background in island resort operations. I believe practical insight and hands-on leadership will add value to the Board and support MATI’s ongoing work in shaping the future growth of tourism in the Maldives.”
Mark’s appointment comes at a significant time for the association. In October 2025, MATI was elected to the Executive Board of Affiliate Members of UN Tourism for the 2026–2029 term, marking a milestone as the first entity from the Maldives tourism industry to serve on the international board.
MATI secured one of two regional seats allocated to South Asia, highlighting the Maldives’ growing influence within the regional and global tourism landscape.
Mark Eletr’s appointment further reinforces MATI’s commitment to industry collaboration, sustainable development and strengthening the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations.
“Sustainability has always been a key focus of my leadership, not only in environmental initiatives but also in supporting communities and strengthening governance,” Mark added. “I am proud of the progress the Maldives has made and I look forward to working with MATI to build on that momentum for the benefit of tourism stakeholders, local communities and the country as a whole.”
