It has 8 lugs attached to the body of the valve, butterfly valves are used to stop, start and regulate flow of the medium. In large butterfly valves there is a gear box where the hand wheel is connected to the stem. A disc is attached to the rod, that disc allows the fluid to flow through the valve.
