BMW has launched the new X1 Long Wheelbase in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 49,90,000. The SUV is locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai in a petrol version, and bookings are now open through BMW dealerships. The main change is the longer body, which brings more space for rear passengers along with new technology and features.
The X1 LWB measures 4,616 mm in length, 2,104 mm in width and 1,641 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. BMW says it is the longest vehicle in its segment and offers one of the most spacious rear cabins among its rivals. The wheelbase is 108 mm longer than the standard X1, while rear legroom has increased by 150 mm and kneeroom by 109 mm. The rear seats also have 15 mm more cushioning and can recline up to 28.5 degrees.

The exterior keeps the familiar X1 design but with a larger body. It has BMW's kidney grille and segment-unique Adaptive LED headlights that extend towards the sides. The headlights have a cornering function, automatic headlight range control and High Beam Assistant to reduce glare for oncoming traffic. The side profile features sculpted surfaces, Aluminium Satinated roof rails and square wheel arches. At the rear, there is a large diffuser and 3D-sculpted LED lights. The SUV rides on 18-inch M light-alloy wheels with a double-spoke 838 M bicolour design.

The X1 LWB is available in Night Dusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White. Inside, buyers can choose Veganza perforated Castanea upholstery or a dual-tone Smoke White and Atlas Grey finish. The cabin also features Aluminium Mesheffect trim, Pearl Chrome detailing, a beige headliner, ambient lighting and a floating armrest with storage.

The front seats are electrically adjustable and come with memory function for the driver. Other cabin features include rear air vents, two-zone automatic air conditioning, a rear armrest with two cup holders and a 40:20:40 split-folding rear seatback. Boot space stands at 540 litres and increases to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded. The SUV also has a 9-square-foot panoramic glass roof, which BMW claims is the largest in the segment. A Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers and a 205-watt amplifier is also available.
The dashboard uses BMW's Widescreen Curved Display, combining a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 10.7-inch central screen. It runs BMW Operating System 9 and supports touch and voice controls, navigation and real-time traffic information. Other features include the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, MyBMW App, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging and Remote Software Upgrades.

BMW Digital Premium adds features such as improved BMW Maps, traffic visualisations, proactive trip suggestions, welcome light animations, Smart Window Opener and additional My Modes. Digital Key Plus allows a compatible smartphone or smartwatch to work as the vehicle key, while an NFC key card is also included. The digital key can be shared with up to 18 users. Comfort Access 2.0 allows the car to unlock without tapping the phone or smartwatch on the door handle.
Parking Assistant Plus adds a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, Reversing Assistant, Remote 3D View and Drive Recorder. The Reversing Assistant can remember the last 50 metres driven and guide the SUV back along the same route.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 156 hp and 230 Nm between 1,500 and 4,600 rpm. It is paired with a 7-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with dual-clutch technology and sends power to the front wheels. BMW claims a 0-100 kmph time of 9.3 seconds and fuel efficiency of 15.5 km/l. The X1 LWB also has 50:50 weight distribution, Performance Control, Servotronic steering and comfort-tuned suspension with increased caster travel for better ride quality on uneven roads.

Safety features include eight airbags, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Evasion Assistant, Blind Spot Assistant, Rear Collision Warning and Attentiveness Assistant. Other equipment includes ABS with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control with Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring, three-point seat belts and an integrated emergency spare wheel.

BMW India offers a two-year unlimited-kilometre warranty and two years of 24x7 roadside assistance. Service packages start from three years or 40,000 km and can be extended up to ten years or 1,00,000 km. Through BMW Smart Finance, monthly instalments start at Rs 44,444, with an assured buyback value of 60% after four years. Buyers can also add BMW Service Inclusive, BMW Secure and extended warranty packages.
