Run enough Topside raids and you start treating vaults with a bit of respect. They're not just shiny rooms full of rare parts. They're trouble with a door on it. Sure, some players would rather buy ARC Raiders Items and skip part of the grind, but if you're cracking vaults in Blue Gate, Dam Battlegrounds, or Stella Montis, you still need to know how to live through the mess. The moment your squad commits to that puzzle, the room changes. You're slower. You're louder. And every Raider nearby suddenly has a reason to come looking.
Clear the room before touching anything
The biggest mistake I see is impatience. Someone spots the terminal, runs straight over, and starts the interaction while a drone is still humming in the next hallway. That's how a clean vault turns into a bad wipe. Before anyone hacks, routes power, or starts messing with switches, the team needs to sweep the area. Kill the small bots. Check the side rooms. Listen for patrols walking in from behind. It sounds basic, but it saves raids. If a bot forces your hacker to break animation, your whole formation shifts, and that tiny bit of panic is usually all another squad needs.
The alarm is not background noise
Once the vault opens, don't act like the job is done. That alarm is basically shouting your position across the zone. Players who were looting quietly five buildings away may now be sprinting toward you. This is where roles matter. One person should loot, and only one. Let them grab the blueprints, rare materials, weapon parts, or whatever you came for. The rest of the squad should be watching doors, stairs, holes in the ceiling, and those nasty catwalk angles people love. If everyone has their face in the chest, nobody is covering the room.
Look up, then move
Vault campers are everywhere right now. People call them rats for a reason. They don't solve the puzzle. They don't fight the bots. They just sit above the vault room, tucked behind railings or beams, waiting for your squad to relax. So when the door pops, look up first. Not after looting. Not after healing. Right away. Smoke can help if the sightlines are ugly. EMPs can buy a few seconds if ARC units or gadgets are making the push worse. You're not trying to win a pretty fight in there. You're trying to stop the ambush before it becomes a box you can't escape.
Leave before greed gets you killed
The worst place to sort your backpack is inside the vault room. I know it's tempting. You want to compare drops, swap ammo, maybe argue over who needs what. Don't. Once the main loot is secured, get moving. Break line of sight, take a route that isn't the most obvious tunnel, and use ziplines or cover to get distance fast. Good ARC Raiders gear only matters if it makes it back with you, so treat extraction from the vault as part of the fight, not the boring bit after it.
