Towels that should not be disinfected include: cotton towels, rental towels and paper towels. Studies have shown that they can consume up to 40%* of the active ingredient (ppm) of disinfectants. Facts have also proved that the disinfectant can bind to the fibers of these cloths without being released back to the surface you want to disinfect. The reason is that these types of towels contain a negative charge, which combines with the positive charge of the disinfectant, and then locks the disinfectant in the towel, so that it cannot be released back to the surface at a sufficient level. Either way, you should avoid using these towels to disinfect your surface.

It is very safe to use cotton cloth, rental paper towels and paper towels for cleaning. However, for the disinfection step, you should always use towels that are certified to be compatible with the type of disinfectant you use (quaternary ammonium, chlorine or hydrogen peroxide based). Many disinfectant-compatible towel options have been introduced in the past decade.
