In a time when conversations around equity, justice, education, and community well-being continue to shape the national landscape, Dr. Jeffery M. Johnson’s new book, From Endangered to Empowered: Solutions for Thriving in America and the Changing World, delivers a powerful and practical roadmap for change.
Blending personal insight, decades of leadership experience, research, and community-based solutions, Dr. Johnson addresses some of the most pressing issues facing Black men, boys, and families today. The book is designed for educators, policymakers, parents, mentoring organizations, faith leaders, fatherhood practitioners, and community empowerment specialists seeking meaningful and sustainable solutions.
At the heart of the book is a simple but transformative message: what has been endangered can rise again.
Using the metaphor of the bald eagle — once endangered but now restored as a symbol of strength and resilience — Dr. Johnson proposes the possibility of change when communities are supported, and systemic barriers are addressed with intention and compassion.
“Empowerment is not just about individual success,” says Dr. Johnson. “It’s about creating systems, opportunities, and communities where Black boys and men can thrive academically, economically, emotionally, and spiritually.”
From Endangered to Empowered is both a reflection and a practical guide for creating lasting transformation. It speaks directly to the urgent need for stronger educational systems, healthier families, restorative justice, and economic opportunity while offering hope grounded in actionable solutions.
For readers seeking a thoughtful, community-centered vision for change, Dr. Johnson’s message is clear: empowerment begins when individuals and institutions commit to restoring dignity, investing in people, and building systems rooted in equity and humanity.
