Ask the Angels by Salva G. Ahmed gives young readers a comforting way to understand fear, sadness, loneliness, friendship, and loss through simple stories of children who learn to ask for help when life feels too big.
The book begins with a reassuring message for children who have ever felt alone, sad, frustrated, or scared, reminding them that they are not without support and that they can reach out for comfort in many ways.
Ask the Angels follows children facing situations that young readers can recognize. John is a lonely farm boy who misses his grandfather and later finds comfort after losing his beloved cat, Ben. Neo is a military child starting fourth grade at a brand-new school, nervous about being liked and afraid of sitting alone at lunch. Betty wants to help her friend Dotty, who is frightened she will forget her lines in a school play. Nicole faces teasing in class and learns to seek protection and guidance through quiet reflection.
Through these stories, Ask the Angels turns difficult childhood emotions into moments of hope. Children are shown that asking for help is not something to be ashamed of. It can happen through prayer, a whispered request, a letter, meditation, or a quiet wish from the heart.
The book also gives parents, teachers, caregivers, counselors, and faith-based communities a gentle starting point for conversations about grief, school anxiety, bullying, empathy, and friendship. Its colorful illustrations and warm storytelling make the message accessible for children while giving adults a meaningful way to discuss emotional support.
For families seeking a gentle resource for children learning to process big feelings, Ask the Angels offers a hopeful message: no child has to carry fear, sadness, or worry alone.
