A Texas family is seeking public assistance after a workplace injury left a heavy-duty fleet technician unable to work following the amputation of his right index finger and ongoing medical complications.

Eduardo Corretjer, the family’s primary provider with 20 years of experience, is not medically cleared to return to work until at least April 6. There is uncertainty about whether he will be able to resume his career. He has also lost sensation in his middle finger, and doctors have identified a metal fragment in his wrist that must be surgically removed before further imaging can be conducted.
According to his family, the injury occurred earlier this month while Corretjer was performing routine job duties involving pinching, twisting and gripping copper wires. He began experiencing heavy bleeding at approximately 5 a.m. and later developed labored breathing and tremors. He was admitted to the emergency room, where X-rays revealed a metal fragment in his hand and a staph infection that had spread to the bone.
Corretjer remained in the emergency room for two days receiving intravenous treatment before doctors determined that amputation of the affected finger was necessary.
The family said his health insurance provider denied coverage, stating the case should be handled under worker’s compensation. However, the employer’s third-party administrator has not supported the worker’s compensation claim, leaving the family responsible for medical expenses, medications and home care costs.
A short-term disability claim and a delayed worker’s compensation claim were later initiated, raising concerns about whether the injury was formally reported at the time it occurred, according to the family.
The incident follows a previous workplace injury in which Corretjer sustained a severe finger injury involving exposed tissue. He received emergency treatment at the time but was not advised that urgent surgery was required and later returned to work, the family said.
Corretjer’s employer does not offer light-duty work, placing his career at risk. The family is facing ongoing financial obligations, including mortgage payments, daily living expenses, and medical costs. They are also supporting their son, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.
“We are doing everything we can to stay strong through this, but the financial and medical burden has become overwhelming,” said Patricia Corretjer. “We are asking for support to help us get through this incredibly difficult time.”
Funds raised will be used for medications, diagnostic imaging, medical consultations, surgical procedures and essential living expenses, according to the family.
The family is asking for public support as they navigate the ongoing medical and financial challenges.
