New Ravenhall facility will offer capped sessions, NDIS-approved services, and Person Centred care for children with special needs across Melbourne's western suburbs.

RAVENHALL, MELBOURNE, VICTORIA -- Sensory Play Centre is preparing to open its doors to a purpose-built, inclusive play facility in Ravenhall, designed specifically for children with special needs. Located at Unit 2, 14 Barretta Road, Ravenhall 3023, the centre will provide a sensory-friendly environment where children aged 1 to 12 can explore, learn, and develop through structured and unstructured play. Upon opening, the facility will operate seven days a week from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and will serve families, caregivers, allied health organisations, special schools, and child care centres across Melbourne's western suburbs.

The centre will offer a range of services tailored to the needs of children with special needs, including Open Play, 1:1 Support Worker sessions, Respite Care, School Holiday Programs, Birthday Parties, and Special Events. All sessions will be capped to prevent overcrowding, ensuring a calm and comfortable atmosphere for every child who attends. This approach will allow children to explore the space at their own pace without excessive noise, crowding, or sensory overload.

Sensory Play Centre is aligning several of its core services with NDIS funding categories, making it easier for families to access professional support without the burden of out-of-pocket costs. Open Play, 1:1 Support Worker sessions, Respite Care, and School Holiday Programs will be available to NDIS participants under categories such as Assistance to Access Community, Social and Recreational Activities and Group and Centre-Based Activities. Birthday Parties and Private Hire are self-funded and are not covered by NDIS plans.
The centre's qualified disability support workers, therapists, and trained play facilitators will deliver a person-centred care approach that adapts to each child's individual needs, abilities, and developmental goals. Rather than applying a uniform programme, the team will take time to understand each child and build sessions around their preferences, communication style, and comfort level.

A representative of Sensory Play Centre stated: “We built this space because every child deserves a play environment designed around their needs, not one they have to adapt to. Our centre will give families in Melbourne's west a place where their children are understood, supported, and free to be themselves.”

The facility will feature accessible play equipment, adaptive climbing structures, tactile activity stations, quiet zones, and a range of sensory-rich materials. The environment is designed to support motor development, social skills, emotional regulation, and confidence-building. Families will be able to choose from flexible session formats based on their child's preferences and support requirements, with options ranging from casual open play visits to ongoing 1:1 support arrangements.

A spokesperson for Sensory Play Centre added, “Person-centred care is at the heart of everything we plan to do. We will take the time to understand each child and shape their experience around who they are. That level of attention is what will set us apart and what will make a real difference for the families we serve.”

The centre is inviting families, caregivers, allied health organisations, special schools, and child care centres across Melbourne's western suburbs to register their interest and experience the space firsthand once officially open. Information regarding the official opening date and future bookings can be found via the centre's website or by phone.
