Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort has announced the return of former England striker and Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen for its third Kids’ Football Camp, taking place from 14 to 17 October 2026.
The four-day programme is designed for children aged five to 13 of all skill levels, combining football coaching, skills drills and games with beach activities and island experiences. The programme will conclude with a Grand Finale on 17 October, where participating children will receive medals and certificates.
Participation in the camp will be complimentary for eligible guests staying at Avani+ Fares Maldives during the event period.
The October programme will mark Owen’s third football camp at the Baa Atoll resort and his second visit to the property in 2026, following an Easter edition held earlier this year. Avani+ Fares first introduced the football programme in October 2025, when Owen led coaching sessions focused on football skills, teamwork and participation.
Following the response to the inaugural camp, Owen returned for the Easter programme in 2026, where more than 30 children and teenagers took part in daily training sessions led by Owen and assistant coaches. Sessions covered dribbling, passing, positioning and teamwork, with activities adapted to different ages and ability levels.
The October camp will continue this approach, giving young guests the opportunity to develop their football skills while enjoying a family holiday in the Maldives. Alongside coaching and games, participants will have opportunities to take part in beach activities and island adventures. The programme will conclude with the final session and awards ceremony on 17 October.
Owen won the Ballon d’Or in 2001 and represented England at three FIFA World Cups. During his club career, he played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City. His involvement in the Avani+ Fares programme focuses on introducing younger players to football through coaching, teamwork and recreational activities.
Located on Fares Island in Baa Atoll, Avani+ Fares Maldives is situated within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and close to Hanifaru Bay. The resort features 176 rooms, pavilions, beach and overwater villas and residences, along with seven dining and bar venues.
Family facilities include AvaniKids, a Teens Club and Petit Bistro, while guests can also enjoy snorkelling, diving, water sports, tennis, fitness and spa facilities.
The return of Michael Owen for a third camp further strengthens Avani+ Fares Maldives’ family offering, combining football experiences with the resort’s wider programme of activities for children and teenagers.
