Climate Green Melbourne Powers Energy Independence with the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Climate Green Melbourne helps households save up to 30% on home battery installations through the new federal rebate, accelerating Victoria’s move toward renewable, self-sufficient energy systems.

Victorian homeowners are set to benefit from one of Australia’s most significant clean energy initiatives — the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, officially launching on July 1, 2025.

The program, supported by a $2.3 billion federal investment, aims to make energy storage systems more affordable and widely adopted. It’s designed to install one million home batteries across Australia by 2030, reducing upfront installation costs by approximately 30%. For Melbourne homeowners, this translates to potential savings of up to $3,720 on a 10 kWh battery system.

As an accredited provider under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) and Solar Victoria programs, Climate Green Melbourne is helping local residents unlock these savings through professional installation, trusted products, and full rebate assistance.

Making Home Batteries More Accessible

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program operates under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) — the same federal framework that powers Australia’s solar rebates. The incentive is delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which are applied as an upfront discount on the cost of installation.

In 2025, eligible battery systems will receive 9.3 STCs per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable capacity, valued at approximately $372 per kWh.

“This initiative marks a major step forward in Australia’s renewable energy transition,” said a Climate Green Melbourne spokesperson. “Battery storage allows households to use more of their solar power, cut electricity costs, and become less reliant on the grid — it’s a win for both families and the environment.”

Who Stands to Gain the Most?

The rebate program is designed to assist households with higher electricity demands, including:

Large families or homes with multiple occupants

Properties with electric vehicles (EVs)

Houses with ducted air conditioning, pools, or spas

Residents seeking energy independence or blackout protection

The program covers systems up to 50 kWh of usable capacity, ensuring flexibility for both standard homes and large residential properties.

Eligibility and Program Requirements

To access the rebate, households must:

Install a new or existing solar PV system connected to a battery.

Choose a system with a 5 kWh to 100 kWh capacity (rebate applies to the first 50 kWh).

Use a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA)-approved installer.

Ensure batteries and inverters are on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved product list.

For grid-connected systems, ensure Virtual Power Plant (VPP) compatibility.

Climate Green Melbourne exclusively installs CEC-approved systems from leading manufacturers such as GoodWe, Growatt, and Dyness, ensuring safety, compliance, and maximum rebate eligibility.

Why 2025 Is the Best Time to Act

Rebate values will gradually reduce over the coming years, making 2025 the most cost-effective time to install a battery system and take full advantage of available incentives.

“The Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives Victorians the confidence to invest in smarter, cleaner technology,” said the Climate Green Melbourne team. “By acting now, homeowners can lock in the maximum rebate and start saving immediately.”

Driving Victoria’s Renewable Future

The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program strengthens Victoria’s efforts to transition to sustainable, electrified energy systems. Through this initiative, Climate Green Melbourne continues to support local communities in adopting affordable and reliable clean energy solutions.
