A seventy-five-year journey of memories, challenges, relationships, resilience and discovering new purpose in life by leaving behind something truly meaningful.

BFC Publications is pleased to announce the release of The Memoirs by Chaand Mathur, an honest and deeply personal account of a life shaped by discipline, hard work, family values, resilience and an enduring desire to live with purpose.
Born into a modest joint family in Old Delhi, Chaand Mathur takes readers on a fascinating journey through childhood memories, education, professional struggles and achievements, family relationships, friendships, setbacks, joys and the many unexpected turns that shape a human life. His journey eventually led him to a distinguished career in the forging industry, including senior professional responsibilities at Bharat Forge.
But The Memoirs is not merely the story of a successful career. It is the story of a man who experienced both the highs and lows of life—and learned from both. The book candidly explores professional setbacks, difficult decisions, relationships, personal losses, family responsibilities and the challenges that accompany advancing age.
One of the most moving chapters of his later life is his struggle of recovery from a serious mobility challenge following a severe shingles attack at the age of 72. Instead of allowing adversity to define him, Chaand Mathur found new determination to move forward and discover another dimension of himself.
That new chapter led him back to a passion he had carried since childhood—Singing.
After a gap of more than five decades following his engineering education, he returned to music and eventually founded Sur Sangam in 2018. What began as a personal passion developed into a meaningful social initiative, with musical performances supporting charitable causes and bringing happiness to people in need. His journey demonstrates that it is never too late to rediscover a forgotten passion and give it a new rewarding purpose for societal benefits at large.
His commitment to service also finds an important place in the memoir. During his term as President of the Rotary Club of Pune Magarpatta City in 2016–17, he helped lead a significant project that provided below-knee modular prosthetic legs to more than 300 economically weaker people walk and lead a normal life with support of Rotary International grant apart from his personal financial support to educate a girl child till she matured to be on her own.
His commitment to service extends beyond his active years. In one of the later chapters of The Memoirs, Chaand Mathur shares a deeply personal decision—to pledge his eyes, heart and kidneys for donation after his lifetime. For him, the gesture represents a simple but profound belief: even after life comes to an end, one can continue to give something back to society and help another person live with greater hope and dignity.
Through these experiences, The Memoirs becomes much more than a record of one man's life. It is a reflection on how ordinary experiences shape extraordinary memories, how setbacks can become turning points, and how purpose can be rediscovered at any stage of life.
The book speaks to readers across generations. Young readers may find lessons about determination, discipline and perseverance; professionals may recognise the realities of workplace challenges and difficult decisions; families may identify with its stories of relationships and responsibilities; and older readers may find encouragement in its message that life can continue to offer new opportunities, passions and purposes.
Written with warmth, candour and emotional honesty, The Memoirs invites readers to look at their own lives differently—to value relationships, learn from setbacks, appreciate everyday moments and never consider any chapter of life to be its final chapter.
It is, ultimately, a celebration of a life remembered, lessons learned and experiences shared.
As the book poignantly reminds us:
“A life remembered is a life that continues to live.”
