A new leadership and organizing handbook, Powerful Prophetic Activism, enters the public conversation at a moment when many communities are asking how moral outrage can become durable power.
Written by civic rights activist and nonprofit director Faizan Syed, the book frames today’s overlapping crises, war, displacement, political fracture, economic inequality, and rising bigotry as a call for disciplined, values-driven activism rooted in faith and public responsibility.
Syed argues that lasting change depends on training people to build institutions, mobilize neighbors, and understand how influence actually works. The text defines “Powerful Prophetic Activism” as a practical model that combines spiritual grounding with hard skills such as public speaking, persuasion, coalition building, media engagement, entrepreneurship, and governance.
It maps a grassroots route to community power: begin with local service and education, recruit and mentor volunteers, and translate solidarity into sustained political and social leverage.
Syed uses historical episodes—such as arbitration during the rebuilding of the Kaaba and the Hilf al-Fudul alliance against injustice—to show how credibility, cross-community relationships, and consistent ethical conduct become the foundation for effective leadership today.
Syed’s perspective is shaped by years of frontline work in Muslim civic life in the United States. He previously served as the youngest Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations chapter in St. Louis, has helped launch multiple Muslim charities, and has been active in campaigns, voter mobilization, media interviews, and organizing against discriminatory legislation.
While the book speaks primarily to Muslims seeking to respond to global and local challenges, it presents its principles as transferable across faiths and secular frameworks. The intended audience includes emerging organizers, community leaders, students, and professionals who want an actionable roadmap for turning conviction into sustained collective impact.
Powerful Prophetic Activism is available in print and digital formats.
