Kindness Countdown to Christmas Tells Us Why the Season Should Shape the Rest of the Year

A family devotional using the Christmas story to build lasting habits of kindness, reflection, and faith—encouraging families to live with compassion well beyond the holiday season.

Kindness Countdown to Christmas: A Family Devotional by Angel Williams was written for the season, but its purpose extends well beyond December. At its core, the book is not about the calendar. It is about forming habits of kindness, reflection, and faith that families can carry into the rest of the year.
The devotional is structured around 25 short readings that follow the biblical story of Christ’s birth while inviting families to practice simple acts of kindness. These moments range from prayer and forgiveness to caring for those who are grieving, struggling financially, or feeling alone. The emphasis is never on perfection or pressure, but on intention.
What makes the book resonate after Christmas is its realism. It acknowledges stress, loss, and exhaustion, realities that do not vanish in January. Many of the challenges addressed in the devotional, including supporting single parents, caring for widows, feeding the hungry, and extending compassion to strangers, remain just as relevant throughout the year.
For families looking to reset after the holidays, the devotional offers a way to revisit what mattered most during the season and continue it in daily life. The countdown format can be reused at any time, adapted for family discussions, or even spread out over weeks or months as a shared rhythm of reflection.
While Christmas may be over, the question the book raises remains open: what would change if kindness were practiced with the same intention all year long? Kindness Countdown to Christmas quietly suggests that the answer begins at home.
