Faith Text Written for the Outcast, Meant to Be Read Aloud

Damian Westfall’s The Quodlibet frames a modern, ethics-forward approach to Christianity—and insists the work only “works” when spoken.

The Quodlibet, written by Damian Westfall and published by Yehoshuai Press, positions itself as a “true book” built for readers who feel pushed to the margins—particularly those disillusioned by institutional religion but unwilling to let go of spiritual meaning. The opening pages address “the outcast who still suffers,” and repeat a clear instruction: the text is designed to be read aloud.
Westfall writes from personal experience rather than institutional authority. His work is shaped by long-term engagement with ethical philosophy, independent theological study, and a sustained critique of performative religion.
Rather than leaning on theological abstraction, The Quodlibet centers on lived ethics, such as how to act, how to treat other people, and how to translate belief into daily behavior. The book is structured in multiple parts, including an introduction to the author’s journey and a core section presented as “19 texts of holiness,” described as a complete ethical framework of Christ’s teachings.
The work also includes a second-part translation/adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s 1908 essay “The Law of Love and the Law of Violence,” reframed and edited by Westfall to support the book’s focus on love, nonviolence, and moral consistency.
For readers burned by hypocrisy, exhausted by performative faith, or simply looking for a spiritually serious book that speaks directly and practically, The Quodlibet aims to function less like a statement and more like a tool—something to return to, recite, and apply.
The Quodlibet is available in print and digital formats.
