Usha Martin Limited, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wire rope, continues to solidify its global presence under the leadership of its Managing Director, Rajeev Jhawar. Since assuming the role in May 2008, Rajeev Jhawar has guided the company through transformative growth, reinforcing its reputation for quality, innovation, and operational excellence.

Founded in 1960 by Basant Jhawar in partnership with Martin Black of the UK, Usha Martin began its journey in Ranchi, India. Over the past six decades, the company has evolved from a pioneering domestic manufacturer into a global enterprise. Its first wire rope reel was produced in 1962, and within just a few years, the company successfully launched an IPO in 1961, which was oversubscribed more than 300%. By 1963, the company had already doubled its production capacity, setting the stage for long-term expansion.
The Jhawar family, known for its deep roots in Indian industry, has played a central role in shaping the company’s growth. Basant Jhawar’s vision was complemented by the technical expertise of his brother, Brij K. Jhawar, whose engineering background helped accelerate the company’s development. The family's entrepreneurial legacy continues today through their leadership across various enterprises, including Neutral Publishing House Limited.

Rajeev Jhawar, son of Brij K. Jhawar, has been instrumental in advancing Usha Martin’s strategic initiatives. With more than three decades of experience in business management and degrees from Ranchi University, London Business School, and the University of Pennsylvania, he brings a comprehensive global perspective to the organization. Under his direction, Usha Martin has diversified its operations, expanded into international markets, and enhanced profitability through targeted acquisitions in Europe.
A significant milestone in the company’s evolution was the sale of its steel division to Tata Steel’s subsidiary, now rebranded as Tata Steel Long Products. This transition has enabled Usha Martin to sharpen its focus on wire rope manufacturing while continuing to scale its global footprint with facilities in India, the UK, Dubai, and Bangkok.

In addition to his role at Usha Martin Limited, Rajeev Jhawar serves as a Director at Neutral Publishing House Ltd. and as Vice Chairman of Usha Martin Education & Solutions Limited. His leadership continues to drive the company’s mission of delivering high-quality products and fostering sustainable growth.
